যে word বা শব্দ দ্বারা verb, adjective, preposition, adverb এর সম্পর্কে কিছু বলা হয় অর্থাৎ দোষ-গুণ অবস্থা সংখ্যা পরিমাপ ইত্যাদ যাই কিছু হোক, তাকে adverb বলে।
Adverb examples :
- She walks slowly. সে ধীরে ধীরে হাঁটে ।
- Abdullah eat mango quickly. আবদুল্লাহ দ্রুত আম খায় ।
1. Adverb modifies adjective
The girl is very honest; মেয়েটি খুব সৎ।
(honest= adverb; modifies very= adjective)
2. Adverb modifies adverb
He did his work quite well; তিনি তার কাজটি বেশ ভালোভাবেই করেছেন ।
(adverb= quiet, modifies adverb well)
3. Adverb modifies,
He put the umbrella just over my head; সে ছাতাটা আমার মাথার উপরে রাখল ।
adverb= just, modifies preposition=over.

Adverb of..
- Time = The train arrived late / I was unwell last week
- Place = The house is painted green inside/ He works here
- Manner =She answered politely/ The wind blows gently
- Number = He often comes here/ I have never seen her
- Degree = The mango almost ripe / We are a bit busy today
- Cause & effect = He was weak so he couldn’t win the race
- Order = Firstly, we made our dough for the pizza.

Some Uses of adverb with examples
Late and Lately/Recently
Late শব্দের অর্থ ‘দেরি করে’। Lately/Recently শব্দের অর্থ ‘সম্প্রতি’
Present Perfect Tense এ ব্যবহৃত হয়- Lately.
Present Perfect / Simple Past Tense এ ব্যবহৃত হয়- Recently
Example:
· সোমবারে, তিনি শ্রেণীতে দেরি করে এসেছিলেন। (On Monday, she came to class late.)
· আমি সর্দি ভালো নেই। (I have been feeling sick lately.)
Before and Ago
Present Perfect, Simple Past, Past Perfect tense এর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয়- Before.
শুধুমাত্র Simple Past Tense এ ব্যবহৃত হয়- Ago.
Example:
· আমি এই নাটকটি আগে দেখেছি। (I have seen this drama before)
· খাবারটি ৫ মিনিট আগে আসেছিল। (The food arrived 5 minutes ago)
Hard and Hardly
Hard শব্দের অর্থ ‘কঠিন’। Hardly শব্দের অর্থ ‘কদাচিৎ’
Verb এর পরে বসে Hard
Verb এর পূর্বে বসে Hardly
Example:
· তিনি খুব দীর্ঘদিন হাঁটতেন। (He walks very hard)
· আমার খালা খুব বেশি বাড়িতে আসেন না। (My aunty hardly comes home)
At present and Presently
At present শব্দের অর্থ ‘এখন’।
Presently শব্দের অর্থ ‘শীঘ্র’
Example:
· বর্তমানে আমরা আমার মামার অ্যাপার্টমেন্টে থাকছি। (We are staying in my uncle’s apartment at present.)
· আমি শীঘ্রই বাড়ি যাব। (I will go home presently.)
Very and Much
Positive degree এর পূর্বে Very বসে।
Comparative degree এর পূর্বে much বসে।
Example:
· আমরা খুব গর্বিত। (We are very proud.)
· সাদিয়া মুনজরিনের চেয়ে অনেক দ্রুত। (Sadia is much quicker than Munjarin.)
Well and Good
Well, Adverb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Good, Adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
· "হাসান ভালো ভাবে পড়তে পারে।" (Hasan can read well.)
· "সে একটি ভালো স্কুলে পড়তেছিল।" (She did good in school.)
Gradually and By and by
Gradually অর্থ ‘ধীরে ধীরে’।
By and by অর্থ ‘অবশেষে’।
Example:
· আমি প্রকল্পের সম্পর্কে ধীরে ধীরে শেখাচ্ছি। (I am teaching about the project gradually.)
· আমরা এই দুর্ঘটনাকে ধীরে ধীরে ভুলব। (We will forget this accident gradually.)
Since and Ever since
Since, Present Perfect এবং Past Perfect Tense এ ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Ever since, অতীতের ঘটনা বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
· আমরা গতকাল থেকে এখানে আছি। (We have been here since yesterday.)
· আমরা পাঁচ বছর আগে পরিচয় করেছিলাম এবং ওই সময় থেকে প্রতিদিন এক অপরকে ফোন করে আছি। (We met five years ago and have been calling each other ever since.)
Already, Yet and Still
Already শব্দের অর্থ ‘ইতোমধ্যে’।
Yet শব্দের অর্থ ‘এখন পর্যন্ত’।
Still শব্দের অর্থ ‘এখন পর্যন্ত চলতে থাকা কোনো কাজ’।
Example:
· আমি আমার লাঞ্চ ইতিমধ্যে শেষ করেছি। (I have already finished my lunch.)
· আমার ভাই এখনো যেনো যায়নি। (My brother has not gone yet.)
Fairly and Rather
কোনো adjective/Adverb দ্বারা পছন্দ বোঝালে, Fairly বসে।
কোনো কিছুতে preference বোঝালে, Rather বসে।
Example:
· তিনি একটি মিথ্যেবাদী হতে পছন্দ করেন, তবে কেউই তাকে সে জন্য পছন্দ করেন না। (He would rather be a liar, even though nobody likes him for that.)
· সবাই তাকে দরকার, কারণ সে প্রতিকূল বোধ করে। (Everybody admires him because he is fairly intelligent.)
Too+Adjective/Adverb
এর অর্থ ‘অনুচিত ভাবে বেশি’।
Example:
· আবহাওয়া খুব গরম। (The weather is too hot.)
· পার্টিতে তিনি খুব দেরি করেছেন। (He is too late for the party.)
Too+Infinitive
এটি দ্বারা ‘কোনো কিছু না হওয়ার কারণ’ বোঝায়।
Example:
· সাইমা দৌড়ার জন্য খুব দুর্বল। (Saima is too weak to run.)
· কাপটি ধরতে খুব ছোট। (The cup is too small to catch.)
Adjective/Adverb + Enough
এটি দ্বারা ‘যথেষ্ট বা উচিত মাত্রা’ বোঝায়।
Example:
· আমি পরীক্ষার জন্য যথার্থ পর্যাপ্তভাবে চালিত নই। (I am not intelligent enough to pass the exam.)
· গাড়ির যাত্রার জন্য আবহাওয়া যথার্থ পর্যাপ্ত। (The weather is fair enough for a car ride.)
Very much, Too much, Too many
Very much শব্দের অর্থ ‘পূর্ণ রূপে’। Too much শব্দের অর্থ ‘অনুচিতভাবে বেশি’।
Too many শব্দের অর্থ ‘অনেক’।
Example:
- আমি এখন অনেক খাবার খেয়েছি। (I have had too much food now)
- তিনি তার ছেলেকে খুব ভালোবাসেন। (He loves his son very much )
Presently and just now
Future action বোঝাতে- Presently বসে।
Past action বোঝাতে – Just now/ Just বসে।
Example:
· আমরা শীঘ্রই বাড়িতে থাকব। (We shall stay at the house presently)
· আমার বাবা সম্প্রতি অফিসে পৌঁছেছেন। (My father has just reached office)
